Shop Disassembly
For preservation, it is essential to disassemble an iron fountain into
all of its original cast pieces as corrosion is often worse at the interface
between joined sections and this corrosion must be removed and the interfaces
coated to prevent future corrosion. Because of the corrosion, disassembly
can be extremely trying.

Fountains are taken apart
down to their smallest components and each is cleaned free of corrosion
in preparation for coating. Epoxy primers are preferred |
