Evaluation and Identification

Our work often begins with an evaluation of the remains in the field, identification of foundry, and determination of original construction and use. The fountain below is typical of the type we preserve. They were often items of utility and necessity, providing either drinking water for the public or for horses and dogs. The fountain pictured below has large basins for horses and small basins for dogs. Some were erected in the middle of town and city street intersections, as "filling stations" for equestrian traffic.
